The potency of red onion skin flavonoids in acetaminophen-induced liver injury management: A biomolecular review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Acetaminophen is widely used as a fever and pain reliever drug. However, acetaminophen intoxication was common responsible for thousands of acetaminophen-induced liver injury (AILI) cases worldwide. It understood that glutathione (GSH) depletion causes deposit metabolites which are toxic to cells. N-acetylcysteine (NAC), therapy, has been reported cause side effects such nausea, vomiting, anaphylactic reaction. This narrative review aimed discuss other potential candidates in AILI management. The biomolecular approach investigate onion skin in-depth holistic discussion. According the results, peel extract rich flavonoids (quercetin kaempferol) potentially be candidate management through proposed mechanisms restoration reduced (GSH), inhibition cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes, upregulation uridine 5'-diphospho-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) enzyme, TLR4 activity.

The Effect of Short‐Term Periodic Fasting on the Acetaminophen-Induced Liver Injury in Mice

Introduction: In many cultures fasting is recommended as a way to protect and promote health. However, there are few studies on the effects of fasting on organ function and resistance to toxic agents such as drugs. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of short-term periodic fasting on the acetaminophen hepatotoxic effects in mice. Methods: In this...

Acetaminophen Overdose and Drug-Induced Liver Injury

The advances in modern medicine have brought about a lot of changes in how we deal with illnesses. One of these relatively new found technologies is the use of medications. However, this has led many to assume that all of the diseases suffered can be treated with medications alone. The danger is more prominent among those who take these without the consultation of health care providers. A poor ...

Complement activation in acetaminophen-induced liver injury in mice.

Overdose with acetaminophen (APAP) results in acute liver failure in humans and experimental animals. Complement comprises more than 30 proteins that can participate in tissue injury and/or repair, but the role of complement activation in APAP-induced hepatotoxicity has not been evaluated. Treatment of male, C57BL6J mice with APAP (200-400 mg/kg) resulted in liver injury as evidenced by increas...
